Rose Hips

topic posted Thu, March 20, 2008 - 5:03 PM by  offlinePamela
I am a fairly experienced gardener - mostly vegetables, fruit and herbs, a few flowers here and there. I am converting my front yard to all herbs this year - medical, culinary, sacred. What kind of roses do I plant to have rose hips for tea and extracts? I am in Northern Colorado. Thanks!

You'll want to go with a species rose rather than a hybrid.
I've heard Rosa rugosas have the best tasting hips and are very prolific.

Thank you, Miss Purity! I am going to the gardening center tomorrow for the important stuff (tomato and pepper seeds) and I will check out the roses.
